Behind our NEW Door Ellen McCue January 19, 2024
So you haven't heard from me for a while. I apologize but that is because there hasn't been much to report on unfortunately 🤣. Over the holiday break, my older son was home from college and he wanted to do a drive by the house. I assured him nothing was happening and that I would be sure to tell him when it was but he insisted. Much to my surprise we found a little tiny bit of foward progress! The windows were missing and there was a truck and some time of heavy machinery in the driveway (I will need to study these types of machines to be able to better state the facts but I assume this is one that is used in the demolition process).
Seeing this progress made us both really happy. While we were there, with the floor plans pulled up on my phone, we had fun envisioning how things would look and what the house placement would actually be. If you are looking at the current photo, the garage will be around where the orange machine is and you would enter the courtyard driveway on the far right side. Because of the lot limitations (it's VERY narrow!), we decided to have an L shape where the driveway is in the front and the house comes off from there. I will eventually share the current design layout so you can envision this along with me!
The next big event was that we passed the review for the demolition of a home considered historical. As the home was built 96 years ago this was a part of the process we had to get through before we could obtain the official demolition permit. I am told that the last and final steps are getting the disconnections from the utility companies and not surprisingly, Eversource is that last to get done. Once we get that, down she'll come! I CAN'T WAIT and Brandon, my hubbie, is maybe even more excited! As he is pretty hands off, he just wants to see something happen. It's been a while!
As we wait, I have been working with my designer, project manager and the window manufacturer about our window selections. This has been a bit stressful. As our process went, the architect designed a home for us based on some of our inspiration photos and we loved the dichotomy of classic with modern touches that he presented. The windows were large and open and we felt the design felt unique but still in keeping with the neighborhood vibe. What I didn't know was that the specs we were given by the builder limited us to a mid-range Marvin windows. I was totally okay with this until I realized it limited the size windows we could actually choose from. In most cases, and of course in the most important spots, the options weren't big enough in scale and ended up looking like traditional smaller windows. SO, we have some decisions to make. At this point redesign isn't an option so we either have to get comfortable with what we have or perhaps look to upgrade to a different window collection that has the window sizes we were hoping for.
STAY TUNED and let's hope we get this home out of the ground soon so that we can get a new one in it ASAP!
Bye for now!
Ellen
