As Promised! Here is Where I Will Update You on What's Going on With Our #downsizer Project.
I have shared that the house is in Westport and while it seems shocking to some, it's super close- 7 miles from our home to my office so it's going to be just fine! I cover Westport as well so this is a natural fit for me and after 20 years in Darien, I am not letting go!
What Happened This Week?
WE CLOSED ON OUR LAND! Hooray! It's now REALLY happening. We are doing a construction loan so that's the next small step. We go our appraisal back and we are good to go so that will hopefully wrap next week and we can get to the business of building. We had hoped to close on the whole thing at once but the best laid plans sometimes don't go as planned! A lot of moving parts but it'll get done.
Next up is for the existing home, built in 1927, to be demolished. I hate the idea of someone's past going away but the home needed A LOT of work to get it up to todays standards and that wasn't what we were in for so we will start from scratch and make it our own. We have been working on our floor plans with our architect, Tanner White, for a few months and that was what we submitted for the bank appraisal and will be submitted to the town for permitting. The survey has been done but we still need to do some civil engineering to figure out the drainage plan and other impervious surface placement like the driveway, patios and pool (yes, finally getting my pool after many years of begging!). I will meet with the builders team at Coastal, next week to review the window package. I think these could take a bit of time to deliver so it's the first thing we need to order.
I don't want to bore you with too many details, YET!, so I stop here for the week and continue next week with a bit more on what the process of finding this project was like and how we ended up at this point.
Have a wonderful weekend and look forward to sharing our journey with you! Let me know if you have any questions about anything I mentioned or have thoughts on things to consider with the future steps and planning! I am all ears!
Bye for now,
Ellen
